Galerie Lelong & Co., New York is pleased to announce that Zilia Sánchez: Topologías / Topologies is on view at The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, Florida through October 13, 2024.
This major survey encompasses approximately thirty works by Sánchez produced between 1950 and 1996. The exhibition includes a significant number of Sánchez’s earlier works and a selection of the iconic shaped canvas paintings for which Sánchez is best known. Stretched over wooden constructions, these works resemble bodily shapes while retaining abstract qualities. Through these works, the artist has explored formalist concerns while subtly grappling with significant social issues—notions of gender, feminism, and identity formation, among others.
