Ficre Ghebreyesus
-
We are proud to announce the acquisition of Ficre Ghebreyesus's painting "Five Figures with Horse Head" (1999) by Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, where the work is now on view in the exhibition Dwelling: New Acquisitions.
Figures, animals, and objects common in everyday life fill the burlap canvas, facing away from each other and lacking connection despite their physical proximity. Interspersed throughout are pockets of intricate patterns—common in Ghebreyesus’s work and evocative of Eritrean textiles—as well as trains, cars, birds, and airplanes that create a persistent sense of movement.
This work was first exhibition in the exhibition Ficre Ghebreyesus: I Believe We Are Lost, which was on view at the gallery from March 30 through May 6, 2023.
