Nalini Malani, the pioneer of Indian video art, is presenting Can You Hear Me? in a new configuration on the façade of the the Taj Mahal Palace Tower, for one evening only.
More than fifty animations and a multitude of floating images will appear on the full length of the Taj Mahal Palace Tower, seen from the side of the Gateway of India.
This unique visual extravaganza is part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai.
Last year’s presentation of Can You Hear Me? solo exhibition at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai from October 19, 2019 till January 2, 2020, was an enormous success, with double the number of visitors than usual.
Malani began the series Can You Hear Me? on Instagram (www.instagram.com/nalinimalani) and all the animations find a place on this platform where they can be enjoyed by everyone. It is in that sense already a public art project. The projection on the façade of the Taj Mahal Palace Tower makes Can You Hear Me? in its own way uniquely accessible on a different scale for the vast crowd of visitors in this area.
Can You Hear Me? will travel this year to Malani’s solo at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, from March 19 – September 26, after that it will be exhibited in a new avatar for a full year at the White Chapel Gallery in London.
The Goethe-Institut and Nalini Malani would like to thank Taj Mahal Palace and Tower for collaborating on this project.
Can You Hear Me? is a collaboration between Goethe-Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai and Nalini Malani.
