Jaume Plensa: Something Sacred: Mons, Belgium
-
Presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, Mons, Something Sacred is an open-air exhibition in the historic city-center of Mons, Belgium. Nearly twenty sculptures by Jaume Plensa will invigorate the city's landmarks, from the Grand-Place to the Saint Waltrude Collegiate Church by way of the Mayor’s Garden and St. George’s Hall—a deconsecrated chapel which was recently renovated and will reopen on occasion of this exhibition.
The city's symbolic axis, developed over centuries by religious and civil power, is a meaningful venue for the work of Jaume Plensa, who throughout his practice has drawn inspiration from literature, psychology, biology, language, and history. By prompting a dialogue between the city's heritage and Plensa's contemporary sculptures, Something Sacred celebrates the power of Plensa's work to unify individuals through connections of spirituality, the body, and collective memory.
