Galerie Lelong & Co. is pleased to announce that Ana Mendieta: Search for Origin is on view at Musée des beaux-arts La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland through October 27, 2024.
Ana Mendieta: Search for Origin brings together around 70 works covering more than fifteen years of production (1968-1985) of the Cuban born, American artist Ana Mendieta (1948-1985). The exhibition explores how the artist never ceased to reinvent herself, developing a new sculptural language, often ephemeral, sometimes performative, always nourished by her research into original myths and rock art. It does not intend to be retrospective nor exhaustive. It celebrates the relevance of a contemporary, political, and vibrant work. Ana Mendieta: Search for Origin includes works presented to the public for the first time, including four of her paintings made between 1969 and 1971, the reconstruction of installations, and a set of photographs, some of which were only discovered in September 2022.
The exhibition is conceived and produced by MO.CO Montpellier Contemporain, France, in collaboration with MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León and Musée des beaux-arts La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
