In Balancing Act 25, Pinaree Sanpitak brings together material precision and poetic fragility in a quietly resonant kinetic installation. Seventeen traditional Indian water vessels—objects of sustenance and daily ritual—are transformed into breast-like forms through the careful layering of hand-cut mulberry paper. Resting on a mirrored stainless steel platform engineered by Studiomake, the sculptures teeter delicately as panels of the base slowly move up and down, animated by a concealed motor. The sound of the mechanism is integral to the work, subtly activating the viewer’s sense of hearing and drawing attention to the work’s meditative rhythm. The title speaks to the precariousness of existence: the forms appear to wobble, as if on the verge of tipping, echoing the fragile balance of life itself. Reflected in the mirrored surface, the vessels double and dissolve, suggesting impermanence, interdependence, and the quiet strength required to remain upright. Created in collaboration with artisans Rattawalee Chanchawvalit and Ubonlux Suwattanachoa, the work is both grounded and ethereal—a tactile contemplation of care, vulnerability, and resilience.
